Cats, especially
thoroughbred ones, are becoming increasingly popular. At exhibitions
one can find a wide variety of different races and colours.
It is therefore barely possible not to satisfy all individuals
with the right race of cat. The appeal of these cats and their
reputation as peaceful, uncomplicated companions often leads
to spontaneous buying without the realisation that every race
of cats has it´s own special characteristics. Never before
were so many animals abandoned; animal homes are full of these
thoughtless, spontaneous buys.
Thoroughbred cats are no exception but they are often rather
passed from one hand to another until they become spiritually
sick.

Every animal lover and responsible person knows that a cat is
not just " kept" but that an optimal relationship
can only develop when a cat is fully integrated into it´s
owner´s life. Before buying, people should realise that
cats are not for decoration but are creatures with rights and
desires that can, when given the right conditions, live to be
15 to 20 years of age. In addition, potential cat owners should
first calculate how much daily attention they can give to their
cats - a vital factor to be considered before purchasing some
races. There are time consuming races and less demanding races,
whereby Siamese cats belong to the former category. |

| It is common practice to keep
Siamese cats in poorly ventilated, over- heated rooms whereas
they need light, fresh air and exercise for their well-being.
When given the neccessary affection and attention by their owners,
Siamese are ideal companions. They are communicative animals
but not loud, affectionate but not too demanding, temperamantal
but not destructive, aware of their own needs but not tyrannical.
It depends largely on their owners as to whether their precious
character can develop, but the time invested in their upkeep
is completely rewarded , then there is nothing more important
to a Siamese than human intimacy and contact. |
